Forbidden
By Gianluca D’Elia

I feel so compelled to write
It’s been so many days
Or has it been months, years?
Everything was destroyed
In the fire and the explosions
Guns and bombs and helicopters
Their sound everlasting
Left us with nothing but ashes

I cannot find a pen nor paper
Amidst the destruction
Not even a splinter

I take a rock
And etch my words into the dirt
Making an imprint on the soil
For all the feet that may walk it.

Gianluca D’Elia’s poem Stardust (July 2010) is his most recent work to appear at vox poetica.
