Contributor Series 7: The Confessional Diary of Bone
Permanent Record
By Annmarie Lockhart

the scars of every break,
hidden from the eye but
knowable in a finger stroke
over a new-ridged bone

another new-ridged bone
like a medal won and worn
on the pedestal of place
and slid away in a collection

a prized collection of old-bump
bones, some fraction of the
whole, a permanent record
of every knock and spill

finger-read, like Braille,
chapter by bone-broke chapter

Annmarie’s poem Black ’47: An Gorta Mór appeared at vox poetica in March.

  2. Those scars are so deep sometimes no one could ever imagine, the pain. Nicely done.

love those last two lines especially. everyday tragedies painted in starkly between the joints, both powerful and fragile.

Yes, I also love the last two lines. Wonderful poem. I must say that this contributor series was especially interesting. Great idea.
