The Dawn
By Julie Ellinger Hunt

At dawn, they all come to rest,
Not just the hungry locusts,
The owl at his post. But inside
Rattling pinball ringing racing
Cerebral nonsense all thumbs
Where even-palmed, calming linear
Thoughts await on borders.
Hair pulling, regretful, second guessing, stupidity and reminders of
The do-overs, the over-compensation
And the things that should not age but do …
And as the coffee is poured and the night is drunk away, it goes
Dormant until the lights go out again tonight.
