Stan Galloway’s most recent poem to appear here was Born Full Grown (October 2014).
Deciduous
By Stan Galloway
Petals folded, bright
Maturation swift and bold
Dropping waste rootward
Maple, larch, aspen,
Viburnum, wisteria–
Tended, denuded
New leaves, energy
Returning with a spring rain–
Temporary loss
Adam, was this all
You understood of death, a
Word with false sample?
Excellent. I like the last stanza, the epiphany and the irony of it.
