It's just poetry, it won't bite

Dog Days Quintet

08.27.12 Posted in today's words by

William C Ross’ most recent poem to appear here was Threnody for the Fallen (May 2012). He takes us on a different adventure than his usual responses to the dictionary.com word of the day: haiku! Haiku doesn’t always adhere to its traditional format, but William provides us with 5 haiku written in the signature 5-7-5 syllable format.

Dog Days Quintet
By William C Ross

Haiku 575

Just three little lines
of seventeen syllables
make up a haiku.

Hot Dog Haiku

I am Sirius.
I have come to dog your days.
I am serious.

Birdsong Haiku

Morning’s mourning dove
becomes a sad soprano.
She sings a high “coo.”

Dream Haiku

In my dream, I dreamed
that I was dreaming of you.
When will you come true?

Life Lines Haiku

As lissome leopards
leap from light into shadow,
so fly my few days.
