Draught River
By Richard Luftig

Whatever water
is left runs
the risk of drying
up, trapped in some
eddy pocket.
Soon, islands
mid-stream
will appear
where rapids
used to be
while folks pray
for them to disappear
like some newfound
Atlantis if only
the rains would
ever see fit
to make
their cameo
appearance.
