Ethereal Morning Awakening
By Gregory Gunn

Today the flock of clouds
have somehow sheared me
fleecily off from
the assembly of sheep
in the city below. Feathered
am I at 29 thousand feet,
like an imagined deity
far above Homo erectus,
but better than Homo sapiens,
far below seraphim,
simply traversing above cotton
cumuli encaged in metal
and man-made fibers, lacking
sufficient moral fiber, an Eden
exile risen above it all, Earth,
forbidden fruit and metaphoric
serpent coaching.
