Flowers in the Wind
(after the watercolor by Paul Klee)
By Neil Ellman

In spring
the wind speaks
to marigolds and peonies
to orchids and hyacinths
in a whisper of words
in a language its own
it offers itself
as suitor and supplicant
to touch, to embrace
to procreate the earth
as the flowers tremble
and cannot speak
with the season’s fervor
in their veins.
