The Glass Blower
By Christopher Roe

The glass blower
plucks a molten tear
from Vulcan’s eye
and with the vagueness
of his breath creates
a shape of artful definition.
Globular grace
of fragile beauty
spun and swung
and shaped by forceps
and wooden paddle
charred by fire’s kiss.
Cooled and transparent
as its captured breath
it stares like Vulcan’s eye
unblinking.
