Going to Work When I’m Sick
By William Cullen Jr

There are people who walk over me;
I am a keystone in a bridge
I never aspired to
when writing in 3rd grade
what I wanted to do
when I grew up.
Now that I’m older
and grown up
(at least physically)
I want to wander away
like a ghost among the living
but I believe in God
and take an aspirin
and say a prayer
and look at the river
below me
reflecting love
in the noon light

  1. A wonderful poem! Truly sensitive with a powerful depth. I’m thinking you can feel it, Annmarie. I surely can.
