It's just poetry, it won't bite

Green House

Robert CJ Graves is from Kansas. Can’t you tell that by the way he insistently takes us to Oz and back in his poems (Queen LearjetThe God of ApathyLook for Jack BuddhaNo Swimming)? This poem does not disappoint. It skims us through the arc of a relationship, just sketching the story, allowing the telling details to speak for themselves.

Green House
By Robert CJ Graves

We started from scratch:
a light on
in the kitchen,
a peeking crack
in the door,
phony flowers
in Xs on the floor,
the gas on.
We painted trees
all over the walls,
clouds on the ceilings.
And put our stories
in the oven.

I loved your wonderful poem. Sort of took me back to our first apartment 3 flights up and new love with new husband just beginning to practice law. A beautiful story baked in the oven and stays in my heart. Thanks,Robert.
