He Says

He says
By Morgan Bazilian

He says he is settled

A new baby
making faces
and little noises

An old house
a porch, a scent of smoke
of willow

And driving home
without traffic
he notices that he has turned old

There is distance and trepidation
Days flitted away that years ago
would have counted for very little

Now precious
and well thought out
Planned, pruned

It takes hours to forget the noise
the repetition
The undo button useless here

He says is a wonderful poem that most of us can relate to easily. No wasted words and haunting with regret. The images are clear and speak to the heart. Stanzas three and four lead us to the realization there’s no going back so we savor the beauty of the time we have left.

A well done poem about happiness and regret. Haunting in its beauty yet poignant. I love this poem.

  3. Tristan Cody says:

The middle of this poem is just too good with its word choice and rhythm. I really like the story it tells and the sort of commentary it has on life and the process of growing.

    Simply lovely.
