Head Pain
By Alexandra Lewis

it’s pain. constant numbing-bruising-sharp-dull-sudden

thunder

of

                                                                 pain.

an everlasting throb-wince-squint-clench-shudder-slap.

they say eat-sleep-water-ice-medicine-shower repeat

                                      repeat

  repeat

              repeat.

they don’t see me screaming-crying-suffering-dying

because

i

can’t

  read

    write

       music

          dance

             class

                friends

                   family

without an immediate pain from

eyes

moving so fast-quickly-slowly-stabbing

sounds

being too loud-quiet-sporadic-random

my head is its own being

it doesn’t obey what i want

            or need

it simply does what it wants

            or needs

no consideration for my being

            my needs

it simply takes-takes-takes-takes-takes…

                        until I succumb

                                    and lie there

                                                in my bed

                                                            unable to

 see

                                    hear

                        move

without a sudden

thunder

of

pain.
