It's just poetry, it won't bite

Hirshhorn

Rachel Lim gave us Pinky Promise in September. About this poem, Rachel says: “This poem was written after visiting the wonderful Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington DC.” The poem suggests modern art in structure and tone and carries both a question and a laugh in its lines.

Hirshhorn
By Rachel Lim

Is
this art?
Paint splattered paper,

Black
and white
canvasses, designer purses,

iPods,
Origami cranes,
and FedEx boxes.

I’m
not quite
sure. Modern art

May
shake her
head as I,

Ignoramus,
traverse her
walls with smiles.
