Housekeeping
By Shannon Curtin

The mundane tasks
commanding our attention
after we’ve dealt with
daily household maintenance
are tea leaves
at the bottom of our marital cup.

After the floors are brushed and bathed,
the laundry tucked in,
and the dishes asleep,
we begin to erase each other
from our shared spaces.

I scrub your fingerprints
from the door jams.

You pluck careless strands
of my hair from the sink.

Very nice short poem. Combines the mundane of relationship maintenance with a hint of future success. I like the metaphore of tucking the kitchen in for the night.
