Jet Crash!
Good Friday

By Jeanette Gallagher

Plane flies low over my roof
Sudden deafening sound
Plane crash–I tell myself

Numb–no fear–listen
Stillness fills the air
Denial–great defense

No computer–no phone
Electricity gone
Smoke seeps under door

Loud knock–policeman informs me
Must evacuate–wind–fire comes my way
Toxic smoke–cannot stay

Apartment complex next to condos
Plane crashes–buildings burn
Breathe smoke–tastes metallic

Traffic blocked at both ends of road
Trapped–sit on curb
Family cannot reach

Coat–blanket wrapped over shoulders
Shudder in cold–strong winds
Wait–watch hours pass

Police Captain takes to shelter at long last
Call son–he takes me to his home
Spend night–return home next day

Everyone lives–no lost life in complex
Many homes burned to ground
Pilots rescued by heroes who live at crash site

Easter miracle!

Exceptionally expressive about this actual event. The poetess is a dear friend of mine and describes with deep sensitivity and keen observance. I feel as if I am living through what occurred while reading it. P.S. Jeanette looked like a film star with dark sunglasses on and wrapped in a blanket.

Wow! Plane Crash and Miracle in the same poem? Truly awesome! This is an inspired work, to be certain. I appreciate the understated finesse of weaving these elements together into a thread of fine spun, Americana gold. Bravo, Jeanette!
