Last poem of the year
By Christopher Roe

Another day
  another poem
    another year
whittled off a life
growing thinner.
I feel the emptiness
of hunger
I feel the chill
of thin blood
and I live in the moment
of parting
and for the moment
of love.
Another day
  another poem
    another year
of fewer wants
and fewer needs
I exist on the cusp
of my urges.
I write, I paint, and I live
all of the time in my head.
As the sun shines
on the cradle
so it shines
upon the grave.
And the moon pulls me
through the night
of another day
  another poem
    another year
fading out of sight.

This is a beautiful poem that, I think, would speak to any artist’s soul.
