late night memories
By Nicole Brickman

all those nights we would
smoke cigars, drink Glen Livet
play endless games of Hearts while
listening to Rachi, Donna Summer, and Madonna

you would tell stories until 3 am and
I would dance with abandon
every time you played Genius of Love

you taught me to
put my own slant on things
never miss a day of honest work
always laugh at myself
shoot for the moon
enjoy the trip

and always we would
send grandma back to bed
assuring her we would only be up
a little while longer.
