Lessons
By Maureen Donatelli

Snow teaches sun
silent lessons of endurance
and snow teaches my tongue

meaning is restless
for permanence
and a liar

stars pour out their stories
in flickers
a kind of thought unending

white petals trickle
velvet tears to dark earth
such lessons drip eternal

no wires can hold
the bits of you I have
their velocity breaks my bones
