Love Poem From SFO
By Colin Dodds
I’m not the first man
to follow a red convertible
into debt,
or the first to fly
out of San Francisco
with soy sauce on his shirt.
to follow a red convertible
into debt,
or the first to fly
out of San Francisco
with soy sauce on his shirt.
But I’m the one
doing it right now.
Beyond the too-appraisable
scenarios of life
is the immediate, ultimately unknowable
event
of being alive.
On the red-eye,
returning,
wounded in a new way
to you–the home
I’d never considered,
I get the terrible feeling
that some day
people will envy me that much
and that they will envy me bitterly.
I get the terrible feeling
that I’ll be one of them.
