The Nightshift
By Marc Carver
Only me here now
me and the fly that thumps endlessly into the window desperate to get out.
All I would have to do is get out of bed and open it
and he would be free.
The toilet smells from the sewer again
and the sunlight is trapped in the window panes.
Last night I dreamt of deaths
many deaths but not my own
Both my doors are open, front and back
but not even a debt collector for company
and the night shift starts soon
what is to be done.
What is to be done?
Haunting. Thanks to Mr. Carver for sharing this piece. HGL
Food for thought.
