It's just poetry, it won't bite

Revealing

Kendal Turner is a funny little spirit from Columbia SC. Full of hope and an annoying amount of cheerfulness, she processes her days through performances and poetry. She is the founder of Wet Ink Art Series, a multidisciplinary event that seeks to promote the visibility and performance of all art forms. She is also a member of Alternacirque, a local grass roots alternative circus where she acts as the group’s emcee and feisty fire performer. She believes that words should be spoken, for we are never alone when we can find ourselves contained within the voices of others.

Revealing
By Kendal Turner

Gradually I become more awake.
A slow sift of soil to find jewels,
something worth keeping.
I encourage you to discover
what I have hidden.

Under my sharp armor I am
amour and endless pages of doubt.
These I’ve tucked behind
barbed humor and forgotten linens.

But spring is upon us and I am
opening the doors to let in more light.
The pages blow in the breeze.
Catch on and know me.

Oh, my. How much truth in one poem? How telling, these lines:

“Under my sharp armor I am
amour and endless pages of doubt.
    These I’ve tucked behind
    barbed humor and forgotten linens.”

    I love them!

    Thank you for this poem.
    Jean
