Emily Ramser’s poem anger appeared here in May 2012.

Savior
By Emily Ramser

“Send us a SAVIOR!”
They beg, for they
cannot save themselves
with palms raised.

But does he come?
They look for feet gliding
over water and smoothing the
ripples they made, but see none.

Is peace brought in the cup of his hand?
Folded among the lines of his brow, is there hope?

No, for they find reflections
of themselves, angry,
hidden in his eye and actions,
hand and brow.

“Send us a SAVIOR,”
but there is no savior
from anger and
ourselves.
