Sea Senses

About this poem, William C Ross has this to say: “I have been a Pittsburgh landlubber for a long time, but I have good memories of those 6 years in the Tidewater area of VA, learning the moods of the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay. When you have lived with salt air, and then left it, it is easy to miss the sea–in all senses of the word.” William’s most recent poem to appear here was Snow: Respite and Return (April 2011).

Sea Senses
By William C Ross

I need to see sea-waves angry.
I need to hear the wind moan.
I need to feel the sharp sea-shells
as I walk in the wet sand alone.
I need to smell the salt sea-spray
and taste the ocean’s recipe.
I need to leave the inland calm
and be one wild with the sea.
