The streets are ablaze with sound–
horns bleat, sirens wail.
Clickety-clack, clickety-clack
high heel shoes on the pavement.
Blue sky peeks through dark clouds;
raindrops pound the ground–splat.
Squishing and squashing sears the
silence as shoes splash.
All this noise is insane;
it grates on your very being.
Sanity hangs on a moment of silence;
someone screamed and a calliope
penetrates my inner sanctum.
The smell of the ocean wrestles
with my nose. Foghorns pound
my ears. I find a moment of respite;
listening to gentle waves lap, sitting
under the dock.
