Stepping Out
By Elizabeth Dublin
Here we go again.
I am stepping out on the moon
with the sun
stepping out on the stars
with the frogs
stepping out on the espresso
with the vino
stepping out on the zoo
with the beach.
I am inconstant
unable to stand still
long enough to count
the years we’ve held hands
too distracted
by outstretched fingers
across the brook
bored by routine
waking up each day
and thinking:
What next?
Some days you just can’t keep the routine. Nice.
