Survivor’s Prayer
By Mary Meriam

May comfort be
The season I
Didn’t die

Given to me

The season I
Moss my way beside the sea

Given to me

The forest and the owl’s cry
Moss my way beside the sea
Inside the wind’s forever sigh

The forest and the owl’s cry
In every tree

Inside the wind’s forever sigh
My life becoming free
In every tree

I try again, again I try

My life becoming free
Didn’t die

I try again, again I try

May comfort be

One line in this poem and I understand the why… sixty two years ago. “My life becoming free in every tree” IS why I didn’t die, literally and figuratively. A revelation/insight comes unannounced and life is richer…when reading poetry.
    Thanks to Mary Meriam.
