Ten-Year Anniversary

Ten years of listening
to the smack of her tongue
spitting “Sweetie,” after
a scorching tirade.
Today she’ll listen
to the click of the door
closing on the past, the 10
long years I won’t get back.
I like this poem with the surprise ending! I wonder why he gave her so much of his time – maybe to write a funny (in an odd way) yet poignant poem. “Better late than never!”
Great twist. I hope he does better in the next relationship.
