The Mill
By Harris Tobias

Time’s great mill
Has ground another Monday down
Ground it into bits as fine as flour
This morning the day stood proud
Filled with promise if only I’d allowed it
To be. Now it’s gone to memory and rust
Ground to dust and powder
Stilled in all its hopeful dreaming
Frittered away, each shining hour
Unspent and wasted in idle scheming
As if the mill would pause for me
I would stop it were I stronger
And maybe Tuesday would last a little longer

So well said, as if the mill would pause for me.
