To the One That Got Away
By Ray Sharp

I had a new poem on the line,
but I did not set the hook
with deft and timely flicks
of my wood and graphite rod.
I never knew the lusty thrill
of holding it in my poet hands
and feeling it wriggle, iridescent
and gasping in choking sunlight
before letting it slip, joyfully,
into the river of unremembering.
Better that you swim unseen
and perfect in the cool, deep
stream of my unconsciousness,
inspiration flowing through your gills.

Great metaphor. Love “”nto the river of unremembering.”
