By Howard F. Stein

Tell me, my love,
what can you say
on your smart phone
that you can’t say to me?
You insist you can’t
be connected and still
talk with me.
You’d rather tweet and text
than hold hands
across the kitchen table.
You say your hands
need to be free
to work your handheld.
You type on your smartphone
while your open laptop
sits in your lap
as we watch TV.
How long has it been
since you last let me
cross your borders
and let me into
your electronic space?
I hear the sound
of clicking keys
even in my sleep.
