A Lover
By Michael Copeland
And so I spoke to the lover,
who turned a deaf ear to me,
suffer me to tell thee of my pain.
Nor will I, or any, escape its net,
there be some who sit in repose
others sitting in rags awaiting.
The lover answered me not,
power of emotion shown on his face,
in darkness he spake her name.
Only to have maiden thrust aside
his love’s intent, closing to all,
as lover wept in abject sadness.
