Autumn Haiku
By Jeanette Gallagher

the liriopes

solemn beauty covers ground
monkey grass more fun

falling pine needles

pierce heart leaves of impatiens

portend autumn’s freeze

squirrels stop hoarding

chew pine cones ’til vision blurs

Indian summer
