Autumn
By Brian Eichenlaub

I wake, my eyes heavy from a long slumber
My hair, grey from the first frost of the season
I watch the Sun as it crawls low on the horizon
It’s pale light struggles to cast long shadows
The leaves, turn and fall from my life’s tree
Soon, like Persephone, I too shall return to Hades
