Before the Storm
By Laura Zucca-Scott
The sky is painting miracles
In rose gold and deep blues
Clouds of promise and mystery
While lighting and thunder
Speak to the prairies
Slender blades of grass
Bracing for the cold wind
Who are we?
Witnesses of an unspoken truths
Beyond our grasp
If not in dreams
That come on stormy days
And endless summers
If someone had told me that
I will be looking at fields of corn
Instead of deep seas
I would have laughed
At the impossible image
Of America’s Heartland
Before the storm
Yet, here I am
As the first drops begin to fall
And I race the rain
Wonderful images, thank you
I could see the sky and smell the promise of rain.
