White
By Alice Shapiro

I lost the perfect white diamond
from Mother’s hand
in the sea of hardship.

How was it that I saved
the delicate white doily, knit
from Mother’s hand?

Alice Shapiro’s most recent poem to appear here was Once More, published in December 2010 as part of Contributor Series 7: The Confessional Diary of Bone.
