It's just poetry, it won't bite

Contributor Series 11: On Birthdays, Reflections on a pretty lady’s garden

Contributor Series 11: On Birthdays, was inspired by a quiet observation of the third anniversary of the launch of vox poetica. It also coincided with another birthday of sorts: the appointment of Patrick Stevens as our Series Editor. The contributors did not make it easy on Patrick; it was a baptism by fire as he had to choose 38 pieces from the nearly 100 that were submitted. I think you’ll agree that Patrick did a stellar job selecting and placing the poems for this series. Enjoy them with me. Special thank you to Lou Pugliese for this series opener which is so sweet it makes me blush.

Contributor Series 11: On Birthdays
Reflections on a pretty lady’s garden

By Lou Pugliese

A date of birth
Some sense of worth
A pass of time
Of prose and rhyme
A dream of one
To give to some
Its time unknown
And yet it’s grown
A parking place
Of love and grace
A place to hide
What’s deep inside
A space to share
Without a care
Community
That came to be
Your poetry
For all to see
A place for voice
Of conscious choice
Itself it feeds
Our quiet needs
And so it stays
A thousand days
Sprung from one seed
To fill a need
And so you see
Miss Annmarie
They like you
They really, really like you …

Lou Pugliese’s most recent poem to appear here was A beauty forgotten, which was published in December 2011 as part of Contributor Series 10: Silken Rags.
