Contributor Series 11: On Birthdays
Superman’s Birthday

By Kenneth Karrer

I suspended you
From the floor
By your ankles with just
One hand.

You insisted, mom would understand.

And as I cut the light
There on your ceiling fan,
You said,
“I love you dad.”

And that,
Created
Superman.

Kenneth Karrer’s most recent poem to appear here was Guitar Poem, published as part of Contributor Series 9: If Men Had Ears.
