Everyday Visions
By James G. Piatt

I found pleasure walking near the ocean shore,
Experienced a soft warmth below the gritty dune,
And on the yellow sand, close to the ocean’s roar,
Imagined a painting where debris was strewn:

Images in the sand remain not long, memories
In the aging mind fade quickly with time, but
Verses found in a bard’s love song last
Forever like a poet’s heartfelt rhyme:

Steps along life’s short and difficult trail,
Lead to a vast array of different provisions,
Carve man’s destiny upon bones and shale,
Give him reasons to savor everyday visions.
