Falling
By Heather Minette

Swallowing a cry,
I closed his front gate behind me,
and from his bedroom window he watched,

as I looked to the night sky
and witnessed a speck of silver,
falling.

A silent confirmation.
A reflection.
A finale.

We, too, fell from above,
entered the earth’s atmosphere,
and burned.
