A Forgotten Lover
By Pijush Kanti Deb

Oh my departed dear,
I’m sorry for and ashamed of
my life
which is still alive
despite your separation from me
as my half-composed epic is yet to be completed;
my song
that is still sung
in spite of your absence in my tune
as the opera is still operative to my ears,
my dream
which is still dreamt
despite your disappearance from my eyes
my memory
that longs to forget you
in spite of your unabated knocking.
forgetfulness is a blessing to a forgotten lover.

A lovely poem in form and feeling; we say “forgive and forget,” and maybe they walk hand and hand after we no longer do.

  2. E.V. Wyler says:

I love the poem’s closing line!
