In the time it takes …
By Murray Dunlap

In the time it takes to close your eyes,
A light turns red
A car rushes in front of you
Creating a wall for you to press into
In the time it takes for a light to change
A marriage turns inside out
A home turns into storage space
Two dogs skitter away
In the time it takes for a light to be missed
A drought of emotion and
A wheelchair come into play
A wanna-be teacher goes stale
In the time it takes to be unaware
An anger rushes in
No treatments exist
And yet a writer is born
The world receives that writer
In the time it takes to be injured
To lose all balance
But to find new ways to lean
To find new hands to hold
In the time it takes for a world of connections to sever
A world of new ones are made, thank time
