In Waiting
By Molly Frederick

Sometimes,
      the innocent blue eyes
  of an afternoon sky
      conceal something white
           and wonderful.
     . . . Later,
   trees begin fashioning
                 filigreed sleeves.
Pines and firs bend,
  reciting their holiest prayers.
And a white veil settles over
              everything.
   . . .  Abiding   —
it makes poets of us all.
