My Fast That Did Not Last
By John S McCallum

I made a mental note
I will fast all day tomorrow
And thought … it would be good my body should

My stomach rumbled as the day moved on
I walked to escape my stomach talk
Shaky legs carried me to the shops

My eyes sought then nose caught
Golden ingots of batter
Sebaceous displayed

Belching steam, illuminated stainless beds
Displaying this yellow food
Taunted & tempting

Of previous hedonistic times
These tasty morsels of fat & salt
I like so much

Sadly, I may have patted a dozen dirty dogs
But I licked my fingers
Like a pedigree Persian.
