Once
By Howard F. Stein

Missing you is part of
remembering you when
forgetting you is impossible.
Perhaps one day your face will be
an image I once knew in flesh;
a tincture of wistfulness
will take the place of throbbing pain.
Once upon a time
will be enough—
but not yet.
