Opening Up

Opening Up

By Nancy Sobotka

Thoughts keep going back to you

the coming together was instantaneous

quite unnaturally natural in some respects

it was a soulful awakening that caught me off guard

one that has opened a yearning pool of wanting

fear is a terrible thing

it prevents a person from moving forward, moving at all

it is this thing, this terrible cement like thing, keeping me still

stillness is like a slow unknowing death to the spirit

and spirit is what keeps you from becoming one of the walking dead

walls another way in the keeping out of life

preventing any goodness to seep in

and that longing from getting out, drowning the captured

it’s a self made prison built with blocks from years of hurt

created with mortar of pain, neglect, loves lost

so I sit within these walls of self creation, longing …

to be freed from this self imposed prison

chains cutting into the heart, slowly seeping out

what’s left of hope

ah to contain what’s left is the desire now

where’s the key for the release from these chains

is there a possibility of freedom for a soul like mine

can a soulful reconnection of a soulful connection occur

or is it too late for hearts as yours and mine?

Well, I do believe this poem is a stepping stone, like a flower breaking through the “cement”. Great poem, Nancy, it has such a ring of authenticity.

A wonderful gift, Nancy, to read your poetry online. It is my hope for you is that you continue to express yourself through writing. I’m guessing my cell is adjacent to yours 🙂

Your poem, the images I feel … are real.
