Peaceably
By Sandra Forte-Nickenig

Strands of guitar notes creep out the window
roll down the roof
touching the ground
harmoniously.

The squirrel thumps the beat with his tail
doves peck at seeds
through the gleaming feeder
rhythmically

and puppy lab laps up the sunshine
squeezing her eyelids
deliciously

Suddenly two jets pollute the peace
piercing the sky
disturbingly.

And all might have been lost
if Charles my man Mingus
hadn’t ever so
gloriously

saved the day by returning to earth
while plucking his bass
miraculously.
