Sad Dreams
By James G Piatt
Hopes and dreams collide in veiled caverns
In his mind making past events of reality
A confusing collage of time and space
Faces
Smiles
Frowns
Brown eyes
Anger
Love
Fears
All transformed into a ghostly umbra
Like ghastly Chinese masks juxtaposed
One upon the other until they become
A confused and paradoxical aloneness
He sits in an empty office wondering
How life eluded him and why he didn’t feel
The draining of time from his existence
As each day was born and died and
He was no more than a bystander in life
Where did sunsets and pink clouds disappear
When did the
Seconds
Minutes
Hours
Days
Years
Fade away how did he miss the beautiful opportunities
And meaningful dialogues as he played at
Living with hollow actions and impulsive decisions
How sad it is to remember that he lived his life
In little teacups when he could have filled it with
Thunderous buckets of fruitful living
Beautiful.
Wow, very powerful. I think most of us can relate to this poem. Carpe Diem.
A sad and beautiful work of art!
