The Sign
By Cassie Premo Steele

I used to wander the yard
in wonder of where, year
after year, I was going,
looking and listening
for signs and songs to
tell the way. Today I
sit still in my house,
knowing the road is
my own blood and
I am walking it daily,
the only sign I need
my own hand moving,
the only song I sing
my own breath moving.
