On Stage
By Harris Tobias

Spring got off on the wrong foot this year
Missed her cue and entered early
Before old Winter breathed his last.
She was miscast from the start
Too lightweight, too girly,
Too sweet and airy for the part.
Spring calls for a stronger member
To wake the world from its morbid sleep
To poke strong fingers deep into the Earth
And wake the maple and the oak
From their fitful slumber
Still, the show must go on
And when the curtain rises
We will find young Spring
Filled with surprises
